This hat is worked continuously around. You will not sl st at the end of each row. Working continually with result in a seamless hat.

HAT J hook
Start with Color A.
Begin with a magic ring. Make 6 hdc in ring.
Place stitch marker to keep track of rounds.
Row 1: 2 hdc in each hdc around.
Row 2: (*2hdc in one stitch, hdc) *repeat to end of round.
Row 3: (*2hdc in one stitch, 1hdc in next two stitches) *repeat to end of round.
-size: infant skip past row 7.
Row 4: (*2hdc in one stitch, 1hdc in next three stitches) *repeat to end of round.
-size: baby skip past row 7.
Row 5: (*2hdc in one stitch, 1hdc in next four stitches)*repeat to end of round.
-size: child skip past row 7.
Row 6: (*2hdc in one stitch, 1hdc in next five stitches) *repeat to end of round.
-size: young adult/teen skip past row 7.
Row 7: (*2hdc in one stitch, 2hdc in next six stitches) *repeat to end of round.
-size: adult
Continue row after row in 1hdc per stitch until the hat is to the top of the ears. Switch to color B 1 hdc per stitch for two more rows. switch back to color A for a few more rows or until hat is long enough to cover the ears. For a more finished look slip stitch all the way around the hat.
Finish off and weave in ends.

EARS J hook
With Color B or C (your preference) Ch 12.
Hdc into third chain for hook. Hdc across.
Turn, ch 2 hdc across. repeat for 7 more rows.
Turn ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc to end. Continue for another row.
Turn ch 2 hdc across for two rows.
Turn ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc to end. Continue for another row.
Turn ch 2, hdc across for last two rows.

Make three more of these.

Take two pieces with right sides facing in and sew together.
Sew the second ear together.

I find it easier and it looks nicer if you place the ear on the hat where you want it and hold the hat around it from the inside of the hat. It's hard to explain, but kind of the like the hat is a hot pad and the ear is the hot dish. Then you sew it from the inside.

PATCH around eye  H hook
Using color c make a magic ring. Dc 6 times in ring.
Next row 2dc in each previous dc. Continue this another round for as large as you want the patch.

NOSE  H hook
Ch5, sc back across.
Turn ch1 2sc in each stitch across.
Turn ch 1 sc back across and around nose.

Sew on patch, nose and buttons for eyes.
If you want to add a mouth instead of adding color B to the main part of the hat to look like a mouth, just omit the color change in the hat pattern directions and stitch in the lips right under the nose.
The lips will look like a capital J and a backward J placed together. Hope that makes sense.

Happy Crocheting!
